From grocery stores to food distribution services, Black women are leading efforts to feed their communities. Our short film, Delta Grown, premiered at the 2026 AINT Film Festival in Memphis, TN. This story was part of Sowing Resilience, a collaboration between the Institute for Nonprofit News’ Rural News Network and The Associated Press, along with nine newsrooms.
Beautiful Agitators

I researched, co-wrote, and produced an original play, “Beautiful Agitators,” based on the lives of civil rights activists including Dr. Vera Pigee and Aaron E. Henry from the Mississippi Delta. The 2017 production was supported by StoryWorks, Reveal from the Center for Investigative Reporting and Mississippi Today. The project has since evolved — culminating in a curriculum for teachers nationwide in partnership with the U.S. Capitol Historical Society.
Wade Through the Waters

In Shaw, Mississippi, Andrew and Mary Lou Hawkins along with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund organized the Black citizens of their town to file a class-action lawsuit and sue the town’s white leadership in federal court. This is the story of how they organized, the landmark court ruling in their favor and the deadly consequences for the Hawkins family.
The project received the 2020 Mississippi Humanities Council Preserver of Mississippi Culture Award.
